Location
The college library is situated on the top floor of the Mary Kelly building, where the careers department can also be found.
Opening Times
During term time the library is open from 8.45am to 8.00pm, Monday to Thursday and from 8.45am to 4.30pm on Fridays. We are also open during most holidays and opening times for these are posted on the notice boards and the intranet. If you want to confirm that the library is open during holidays please ring us on 0161 762 4519
Resources
  • There are ten networked computers in the library, plus 20 wirelessly connected laptops available for use only in the library.
  • A scanner for student use and a photocopier are also available.
  • Magazines are provided to support all curriculum areas but also many for leisure reading. Vogue, Radio Times, New Musical Express are just some leisure periodicals that are taken.
  • 5 daily broadsheet newspapers are taken as well
  • A TV and video room can be booked for watching educational videos or for working in groups of up to 7 people.
  • Two study areas; one for silent study and one for working in groups.
  • Then of course there are the books, 20,000 at the last count. Every subject you study will have some books which will help you with your coursework and homework as well as wider reading. Our fiction stock varies from horror to history, science fiction and fantasy as well as classics and romance.

We currently subscribe to many online resources and access is available from any computer within college or to students who register to access the intranet from home. Infotrac, the online source for newspapers and magazines, is available off campus from the link below. Please ask in the library for the password.

Open Access I.T.

Open Access IT Suite Photo

The college's Open Access I.T. Suite, which contains over 80 PCs in a state-of-the-art, air conditioned environment, is available for student use between the following hours during term-time:

  • Mon - Thu: 8:40am - 8:30pm
  • Fri: 8:40am - 3:50pm

Students will be able to use PCs and laptops in the library during college holidays unless otherwise notified.

The I.T. Suite (IT4) is located on the first floor of the Mary Kelly building. If you have any problems in using the college's PC network please seek support at the permanently manned help desk. When using college PCs please remember that no food or drink are to be brought into the IT suites, and no games playing on the PCs is permitted at any time.
