You will follow the WJEC English language specification. This leads to one modular exam at AS and a coursework module consisting of two pieces. The exam is worth 60% of your final AS grade and coursework is worth 40%.We study both spoken and written language. The coursework module asks you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding through your own writing and through textual analysis. The exam tests this knowledge through analysis. We prepare you for this by looking at different kinds of writing such as teenage magazines and newspapers as well as spoken language such as political speeches and celebrity interviews. You will do lots of your own writing in lessons. The A2 course follows a similar pattern but also introduces you to key areas of study like Language Change. You can be sure of being taught by enthusiastic staff who are very knowledgeable about the subject. We will always take account of your individual needs and you will have our full support in achieving your potential. We want you to enjoy your lessons and because of this, we teach you in many different ways in order to accommodate all learning styles. You will get the chance to take part in extra-curricular activities such as trips, visits by outside speakers, writing workshops and the extended project qualification.
