We follow the WJEC specification. This consists of two modules – one exam and a coursework essay. The coursework is in two parts – an extended prose study and a piece of creative writing in response to a literary text. You will study some modern poetry and a modern play for the exam. The exam is worth 60% of your AS grade and coursework is worth 40%. A2 follows a similar pattern of two modules with coursework on texts from different times and of different types. The exam is on Shakespeare, other related drama and pre-1800 poetry. We take a variety of approaches to teaching and learning so lessons consist of many different types of activity in order to accommodate peoples’ different learning styles. The sorts of things you can expect to do range from games in class to independent research to extended essay writing. It goes without saying that you should enjoy reading and be prepared to do a great deal of this. You will be taught by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff who will be as keen as you are to ensure that you reach your full potential. We expect a lot from you but you can also expect a lot from us. You can be sure of our full support throughout the course in helping you to progress. You will have many opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities including trips, theatre visits, visits by outside writers and writing workshops.
