Graphics

The Graphics course gives you the opportunity to develop a personal and structured approach to project work by exploring ideas and materials, developing your critical faculties in both practical and written work and acquiring a high level of design, presentation and making skills.


 
Future Prospects

Most students go on to specialised degree courses in Art & Design. There are many careers open to you from fine art to industrial design, including restoration, museum work, arts administration, advertising, photography, textiles, fashion, television, communications, occupational therapy and teaching. Most things around you have been designed by or required the skills of a trained artist in their production or promotion.

What Will I Be Studying?

This is a specialised course that involves work in areas of illustration, advertising graphics and typography. You will be expected to show proficiency in drawing and painting as well as exploring a wide variety of techniques and ideas related to both art and design. Graphic computer based work will be used as a creative method to develop and realise ideas. This course combines coursework with external examination projects and a written and illustrated personal study based upon an aspect of critical/contextual study of your choice.

 

AS (first year)

The AS examination is made up of one coursework project and a controlled test supported by preliminary studies.

A2 (second year)

The A2 examination builds on work done in the first year and is made up of one coursework project, a relating written and illustrated critical and contextual study and a controlled test supported by preliminary studies.

Entry Requirements

General college entry requirements. (See page 10 for details.) In addition, you will need a grade C or above in Graphics, Art or a related area like Design Technology. Grade C or higher in English is  recommended. Students without GCSE in Art or a related subject will need to present a folder of work for negotiation.
