Health Studies

This demanding course will suit candidates who have a strong interest and potential future in health care professions, teaching and related higher educational courses. It is an increasingly popular subject and has links with many other subjects offered in the college.


 
Future Prospects

This course can lead into a variety of health related professions such as:

• Nursing • Social Work • Midwifery • Occupational Therapy • Speech Therapy

• Physiotherapy • Radiography and also enables entry into general degree related studies such as:

• Teaching • Psychology • Sociology • Criminology • English Language • Sports Therapy.

What Will I Be Studying?

Year 1 – AS level This can be studied as a single or double award

3 units result in 1 AS qualification. (Single Award)

The units cover the topics of:

• Life Quality Factors • Effective Communication Skills • Concepts of Health, Illness and Disease

6 units result in 2 AS qualifications. (Double Award)

The units cover the above and in addition:

• Child Development • Common Diseases and Disorders • Complementary Therapies Year 2 – A2 level This can also be studied as a single or double award

3 units results in 1 A2 qualification. (Single Award)

The units cover the topics of:

• Careers in Health and Social Care • Clients with Disabilities • Understanding Mental Health

6 units result in 2 A2 qualifications. (Double Award)

The units cover the above and in addition:

• Factors and Theories of Human Development • Education in Early Years • Diagnosis and Treatment. The course is assessed by a combination of external examinations and coursework.
