In today’s world, the ability to use a computer with confidence is essential in all walks of life. All our everyday life is regulated by the use of computers. Those who understand how to solve problems, complete tasks and develop advanced uses with well-known applications are constantly in high demand.  The teachers are all highly qualified and have expertise in the delivery of the course.  If you already have knowledge of ICT, your teachers will introduce you to concepts which will allow you to develop your talent even further!


 
Future Prospects

A large proportion of our students go on to higher education to study ICT, Computing or a similar ICT/Business related subject to degree level. The employment prospects of students who have a degree in ICT are excellent in all fields.

What Will I Be Studying?

For the practical element, the course uses applications such as:

•Word Processing/DTP,

• Presentation Software,

• Databases,

• Spreadsheets,

• Image editing and Multimedia software.

For the theory part of the course, the topics covered include:

• Data, Information & Knowledge,

• The Quality, Value & Importance of Information,

• Validation & Verification,

• Networks (including the Internet),

• Databases,

• Presenting Information,

• Social & Legal Issues,

• Human Computer Interface,

• Security Issues

• Uses of ICT in Business, Education, Health Care & the Home.

The course is taught using a networked PC system with industry standard Software. The practical component of the course accounts for approximately 55% of the overall marks.

Levels
AS & A2
Entry Requirements

General college entry requirements. (See page 10 for details.) There is no need for a student to have followed any Computing or IT course at GCSE. All we want is your enthusiasm for the subject and your wish to learn.

Exclusivity - It is not possible to also follow A level Computing.
