Psychology

Psychology is an interesting, challenging and exceptionally useful subject which is advantageous to a wide variety of different careers. Psychology will provide you with a scientific understanding of human behaviour and help to develop the critical thinking and research methodology skills necessary for many degree level courses.


 
Future Prospects

Many students go on to study Psychology in higher education. Psychology can be useful in any job which involves dealing with people. Those intending to work in the caring professions, the police force and other services, as well as those aiming to work in the media, sports psychology, personnel, marketing, sales and market research will find something of relevance and interest in AS/A2 level Psychology.

What Will I Be Studying?

Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and experience. Anything that people do, think or feel can be studied by Psychologists. Psychology appeals to many students with different backgrounds and interests. Students take Psychology alongside science subjects, humanities and arts. Psychology can help students to gain a deeper scientific understanding of themselves and others. Studying Psychology will develop an understanding of the biological and psychological mechanisms involved in both normal and abnormal behaviours. 

The topics covered in AS include: Memory, Attachment, Research Methods, Stress Social Psychology and Abnormality.

The topics covered in A2 include: Sleep and Sleep Disorders, Eating behaviour, Aggression, Schizophrenia, Media Psychology and Research Methods.

Levels
AS & A2
Entry Requirements

General college entry requirements. (See page 10 for details.) In addition, this must include a grade C or above in GCSE English, Mathematics and Science. You do not need to have studied Psychology before.
