One of the great things about coming to a college like ours is that it means a new start, new people to meet and exciting new opportunities. It’s a chance to study in a more adult environment, to be a proper student, and to begin laying plans for an ambitious future. Of course you’ll be wondering what it will be like, but I’m sure any of our students and staff will tell you what a friendly and caring place it is, and how welcoming to newcomers. You’ll soon fit in!

The reason the college is so welcoming is because of its unique atmosphere and ethos. It was founded by the Daughters of the Cross to be a place where faith is respected and encouraged, a deeply human place where people find understanding and friendship. This welcome, of course, also extends to those of other faiths and backgrounds. Whoever you are, and whatever it is that makes you unique in the sight of God, we will value that uniqueness at Holy Cross.

We are also very proud of our reputation for academic excellence and student support, confirmed in the last Ofsted Report on the college, in which Holy Cross was classified as Grade 1, outstanding, right across the board. The inspectors commented on our “outstanding commitment to the mission and Catholic ethos” and noted that “the A level success rate placed the college in the top 10%.”

Because we are based on one compact site, near the centre of Bury, we’re a real community with a very supportive atmosphere. The choice of subjects is immense – far more than can be offered in most schools. We also have several hundred people studying for degrees here, and are linked with universities in Britain and even in America. This strong academic and caring ethos will inspire you as you aim for your own bright future.
