Foundation Degree in Integrated Practice - Early Years & Children - Young People

Holy Cross University Centre provides a unique model of student support for those studying for a degree locally.

Students will learn to deliver key outcomes from Every Child Matters: be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic wellbeing.

This full-time course, in partnership with Edge Hill University, lasts 2 years.

Taught sessions will take place one day a week (to be confirmed) from 4.15pm - 9.00pm.


 
Who is this course for?

This course attracts people who currently work with, or wish to work with, children or young people in the following areas:  voluntary sector, schools, children's centres and nurseries, play leaders, family support workers or learning mentors.

What do I need to get onto the course?

Entry qualifications (in appropriate subjects)

  • NVQ level 3 or
  • Two A/S levels or
  • One A level or
  • AVCE or BTEC National
  • Pass in Access course

Possible APL (Accreditation for Prior Learning) for mature applicants.

NB: If students have a current CRB with their work place then they do not need another.

A placement is required - minimum one day per week, eg youth club, school, after school club, etc, ideally working with young people aged 12+. Or in a nursery or primary school setting.

No previous experience needed if entry qualifications are met.  A mentor in the placement is needed.

What will I study?

Year 1:

  • Study skills; human development; the working environment and communication skills; the individual in the social context; health and wellbeing; working partnerships; the vulnerable young person.

Year 2:

  • social inclusion;  promoting health and wellbeing and health promotion in action, behaviour management and legal and ethical issues related to children and young people.

What career opportunities will I have with this degree?

This programme provides a valuable qualification for people planning a career in children's or young people's services, such as extended schools, etc.
