Overview

Choose this course and you’ll be joining a popular and growing department, with around 670 students studying A Levels in Business, Accounting and BTEC Business.

In our department it’s not just what happens in the classroom that’s important – enrichment forms an integral part of our student’s experience.

Educational visits have included trips to America, China, Geneva and local factories in the UK, including Jaguar Land Rover and Coca-Cola.

We have strong link with universities and employers, which allow our students, through workshops and visits, opportunities to learn more about different organisations.

What we’ll study

On this highly relevant and skill-instilling course, you’ll cover a range of topics essential in the business world today. Not only will you learn all the crucial theory, but you will apply them to real organisations - developing your commercial awareness. With us, you’ll study the following units:

• Exploring Business (coursework). You will study purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment, and how a business must be dynamic and innovative to survive.
• Developing a Marketing Campaign (external examination). During this unit you will take on the role of a marketing consultant. You will be given a client and a brief and you will have to research into the specific industry and develop a marketing strategy to suit the client.
• Personal and Business Finance (external examination). This unit will look at how individuals and businesses must manage their money in order to survive.
• Recruitment and Selection Process (coursework). During this unit you will investigate into the recruitment and selection process within a large business. You will then take on the role of a HR advisor. You will create a job pack and interview for a vacancy, Meanwhile you will also be applying for a vacancy and participating in interviews as a candidate.

Your future

BTECs are now a strong pathway to university too, so whatever direction you take after college, this course will equip you with valuable skills.

A significant proportion of our students go on to study business-related degree courses at university – proof that Business is an enjoyable and interesting subject. Studying the course will also provide you with the skills and knowledge to run and manage your own business, so it’s perfect for entrepreneurs.

How you’ll be assessed

The course is a combination of coursework and external examinations. There will be one coursework unit and one external examination unit each year.

Level: BTEC Extended Certificate (2 year course equivalent to 1 A Level).

This Business BTEC equips students with practical, applicable knowledge that will enable them to hit the ground running as effective employees in any business. BTECs are now a strong pathway to university too, so whatever direction you take after college, this course will equip you with valuable skills.

Entry Requirements:

General College entry requirements.

A pass grade, if you have studied L2 BTEC Business.

Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths or English.

Great subjects to partner Business NQF BTEC Level 3, Extended Certificate:

Health & Social Care, BTEC Level 3 Law and BTEC Level 3 ICT are all strong companion courses to this qualification.
