FOUNDATION GOVERNOR AT HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC SIXTH FORM COLLEGE

Three (3) Foundation Governor Positions have become vacant at Holy Cross Catholic Sixth Form College, and the Diocese is seeking to appoint suitable people to these positions.


Foundation Governors are appointed in the name of the Bishop by the Episcopal Vicar for Education and form the majority of the governing body. They have a legal duty to preserve and develop the Catholic ethos of the school and to ensure that it is conducted in accordance with its Trust Deed.

Their responsibility is not only to consider the interests of their individual school or college but also the interests of other schools and colleges and Catholic education in general across the Diocese.

Nominee would not be expected to have a direct knowledge of current education law, of College/school organisation or governance, but should be willing to learn and dedicate reasonable time to the responsibilities. The nominee would be expected to have a genuine commitment to the educational, personal and spiritual development of students and in particular to the wellbeing of the College community as a whole. Supportive packs and appropriate training opportunities will be made available.
Foundation Governor appointments are normally made for a four-year term of office. Each period is a self-contained term of office and no assumption should be made about further periods of appointment.

We have an exciting opportunity at Holy Cross College for a HR Manager to join the team based in Bury. You will join us on a full time / full year / permanent basis and will receive a competitive salary of up to £43,278 per annum plus excellent benefits!

The College is looking for an experienced HR Manager to manage the day to day provision of an efficient and effective human resources service for the College.

Key responsibilities of the HR Manager:

  • To lead the development and review of the College’s HR Policies and Procedures ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practice.
  • To oversee the implementation of the College’s HR Policies and Procedures and the provision of advice, guidance and support to staff, managers, College Leadership Team (SLT) in their operation.
  • To provide advice and support to managers on a range of sensitive HR matters and oversee the effective operation of the College’s disciplinary, capability and grievance procedures as required.
  • To be responsible for the development and implementation of the College’s recruitment and selection procedures and activities, ensuring fair and transparent processes and compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the timely production of documentation and correspondence to/for staff in relation to contractual matters including the timely transfer of information to the payroll agent.
  • To act as an Operational Security Manager and be responsible for the security of staff data/records in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations and other relevant legislation and guidance.
  • To ensure there are effective arrangements for the recording, management and reporting of staff attendance, providing support and training for line managers and staff (in relation to sickness, leave of absence, TOIL, annual leave etc).
  • To work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal (Curriculum) to ensure effective arrangements are in place to cover teaching staff absence.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the College is fully compliant with safer recruitment and to be responsible for the College Single Central Record.

 Experience and skills required of HR Manager

  • Level 5 qualification in Human Resource Management.
  • Member of CIPD.
  • Substantial experience of working in HR management, preferably in a generalist role.
  • Ability to promote high expectations as well as confront and resolve problems using sound judgement.
  • Ability to respond and communicate with sensitivity, clarity and focus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current best practice and forthcoming developments in HR.
  • High level IT skills.
