Information Technology (IT) is found in all walks of life, in teaching, marketing, accounting, banking are just a flavour of the professions that are today reliant on IT. The BTEC AAQ in IT is a Level 3 course, a reflection of the increasing importance of new technology.
This qualification offers a practical and academic approach to studying Information Technology. Designed to complement A Levels, it supports progression to higher education and future employment.
Students will gain a strong foundation in IT systems, cyber security, data management, and web development. The course includes two exam-based units and two coursework units, with a focus on applying skills in real-world scenarios.
This course is ideal for students interested in progressing to university or careers in IT, business, or digital industries. This qualification works perfectly alongside A Levels such as Business or Maths and opens the door to exciting opportunities in higher education or the digital world of work.
Year 12
Unit 2: Cyber Security (Exam) – Understand types of cyber threats, vulnerabilities in networked systems, and methods of prevention and forensic investigation.
Unit 4: Databases (Coursework) – Learn to design, develop and manage effective relational database systems using industry-standard tools.
Year 13
Unit 1: Information Systems (Exam) – Explore how hardware, software, and users interact, and evaluate the impact of IT systems on individuals and organisations.
Unit 3: Website Development (Coursework) – Use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to plan, design, and build functional websites for specific purposes.
Level 3. This is a BTEC AAQ Level 3 Extended Certificate (2 year course eqivalent to 1 A Level).

Entry Requirements:
General College entry requirements.
Pass in L2 BTEC IT if studied.
Grade 4 in either GCSE English or Maths.
