Holy Cross University Centre is renowned for its level of proactive student support. We know that many of our students have been out of formal education for a while and need to rebuild their academic confidence, so they value good quality proactive pastoral support. Postgraduate qualified and experienced Support Tutors, all trained teachers, are available to provide this, and help you through your chosen course/pathway.
Every University Centre student is allocated a Higher Education Support Tutor. The role of the Support Tutor is to act as the first point of contact for any queries you may have. While your Support Tutor is available for generic advice and guidance, their fundamental role is in relation to pastoral care and support. They will provide advice on a wide range of issues such as finance, learning and support issues.
In addition, Support Tutors will provide advice and guidance for applicants wishing to transfer from another university, or with prior qualifications, through the accreditation of prior learning (APL) process or similar process. Support Tutors will liaise with the Liverpool Hope University Admissions department and inform the student of the University’s APL decision and process the UCAS application form. As part of this process, Support Tutors will oversee, practically, the process of a student transferring into a Holy Cross University Centre course or to another HE institution using credits accrued during their studies at Holy Cross.
Whether handing in assignments or finding out information our highly experienced staff in the University Centre will be more than happy to help you. They are here to assist in any way they can to make studying at Holy Cross University Centre as supportive as possible for you.
We offer study skills sessions to new students before they start their chosen degree at Holy Cross as well as providing study skills support for on course students. The pre-course sessions have been proving particularly popular and provide a much needed confidence boost for people who might have been out of education for a long time.
Entrance preparation provides guidance to students on how to approach and complete the entrance assessment papers.
Students with Additional Needs
As part of our commitment to providing, a fully inclusive learning environment Holy Cross actively encourages applicants to disclose any relevant information early on in the admissions process, such as, at initial advice appointments and/or on the UCAS application.
If potential students require admissions information to be presented in a different format, they can contact the university centre in advance.
If any applicants indicate a disability or additional support requirement they will be given information about Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs) and will also be asked permission for referral for further advice to the appropriate university.
