The 2025 theme for Mental Health Awareness Week was 'community'.
Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us we are not alone.
Communities can provide a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times, and give us a sense of purpose.
Here’s a snapshot of the many ways our wonderful Holy Cross community came together:
Our 4C (College Community for Charities and Campaigns) Group went out and about putting up messages of positivity in all the toilets.
Random acts of kindness were arranged and distributed across campus by our SRC (Student Representative Council) throughout the week. These included chocolate bars, stationery and other goodies.
Tuesday
One of our Progress Tutors, Stephen Alty, showcased mental health/mindfulness activities (such as journalling and breathing exercises) at The Den, our male wellbeing support group which runs every Tuesday lunchtime.
Wednesday
Our Student Wellbeing Mentors hosted a cake sale in Coffee Central on Wednesday break time, raising funds for the Mental Health Foundation, the charity which leads Mental Health Awareness Week every year.
Thursday
A mental health break was offered on Thursday lunchtime in the social area, with board games and craft activities on offer to calm the mind.
We embraced #WearItGreen Day on Thursday, with students and staff wearing their finest green items and coming together for a group photo in our Sanctuary Garden.
Friday
To round off Mental Health Awareness Week, our wonderful Counselling team made calm jars with students in their weekly Arts for Wellbeing group, which runs every Friday lunchtime.
How does community benefit your mental health?
Being part of a community can make life feel more meaningful and enjoyable, help us feel happier and safer, and improve our mental health.
