Upper Sixth Geology student Grace Robinson is all set to complete a six-week paid internship at the British Geological Survey (BGS) over the summer.
BGS only accepts up to four students from across the UK to participate in the scheme each year, meaning Grace has overcome fierce competition to gain her place on the programme.
The internship is delivered by BGS at their headquarters in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, in partnership with the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham.
Grace will spend the six weeks working with the BGS, developing her skills and knowledge ahead of going to University in September.
Philip Reeve teaches Grace Geology and Geography at Holy Cross. He said: “Completing the summer scheme will no doubt serve Grace well in her undergraduate studies and career ambitions to become a volcanologist. She’s done so well to gain her place on the course, as they are highly sought after.”
Grace said: “I’m really excited about the summer and getting real-world experience in the field I eventually want to work in. My interest in volcanology first came about when studying at GCSE and my time here at Holy Cross has only made me more determined to become a volcanologist.”
Grace has studied A Level Geology and Geography, plus BTEC Applied Science, at Holy Cross College.
