They considered how race and racism have shaped lives, cultures, and connections across the Atlantic, from historical contexts to present day realities.
During the visit, students had the valuable opportunity to engage directly with MMU academics who specialise in the histories of race and racism in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Through lectures, discussions, and interactive activities, students examined key moments, movements, and experiences that have influenced societies.
The sessions encouraged students to understand not only the historical foundations of racial inequality but also the ongoing impact these issues have today.
More importantly, they discovered how studying such critical topics at university can empower young people to become informed, active change makers who challenge racism in all its forms in the past, present, and future.
The visit was an inspiring reminder of the importance of academic curiosity, critical thinking, and social responsibility.
Our students came away with broadened perspectives and a renewed commitment to understanding and addressing issues that continue to shape our world.
