Results Day Advice 2026

We hope these frequently asked questions will guide you through Results Day and beyond.

Whether you're collecting your results, confirming your next steps, or considering alternative options, this Results Day FAQ covers the most common queries students have at this time.

Here you'll find clear, straightforward advice on accessing your results, understanding your choices, and knowing where to go for support so you can make confident and informed decisions about your future.

How do I get my results?

Log in to MyView to see your results. Check your UCAS Hub application to see if you have been accepted.

Who can I speak to if I need help?

Careers staff and teaching staff will be available to speak to on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th August 2026 and they can help you with:

  • Clearing
  • Making the right decisions after disappointing results and
  • Applying as a late applicant.

You can ring College on 0161 241 1680 or come in for face-to-face advice.

When can I come into college?

Between 8am and 3.45pm on Results Day. This year, Results Day is on Thursday 13th August

What shall I do if I haven’t met my offers?

If you are not holding any offers at a university or college you might be able to find another course in Clearing.

Remember: if you are waiting for exam results, you will not be able to use Clearing until you receive them.

What shall I do if I have done better than I thought?

If you do better than expected, you can use Clearing to explore new opportunities.

How do I enter Clearing?

If you're holding a firm unconditional place you no longer wish to take, you can self-release by using the ‘decline my place’ button in your UCAS application to apply using Clearing.

If you have not met the conditions of your offer, you will automatically be placed into Clearing.

I have changed my mind and now want to go to university. Can I still apply for 2026 once I have my results?

Yes. You can apply as a new applicant through the UCAS Hub.

Create and account, submit and pay.

You won’t need to add course choices.

You will be given a unique Clearing Number once you have applied.

Once you have a verbal offer from a university, you will be able to add a Clearing choice on your form. Please note: this will not be available until after 1pm on Results Day to allow you time to carry out your research.

What do I do about my university accommodation if I am offered a course through Clearing?

You need to contact your university as soon as possible.

You may have trouble getting through to them via phone on Results Day. Be patient and keep trying!

In the meantime, log onto university websites and research possible accommodation options online.

Can I swap between my firm and insurance?

No, you can’t swap choices.

Your insurance choice is automatically declined if you are confirmed at your firm choice.

If you want to go to your insurance choice, you need to go through Clearing.

You will need to check with your insurance choice that they can accept you in Clearing and then use ‘decline my place’.

I want to defer entry to university and start in September 2027 – can I do this?

If you have been offered a university place (and achieved the necessary grades) to start September 2026, then deferring your entry to September 2027 will be at the discretion of the university.

You will need to contact them via phone to ask them, but you will need a good reason to defer entry and they may say no!

I haven’t applied for my university finance, but I do have a place at university in September 2026.

You need to make an application for Student Finance as soon as possible.

Visit www.gov.uk/apply-for-student-finance for more information on how to apply.

I have changed my course or university – how do I inform Student Finance?

If you've already applied for funding but have changed your course or the university you are attending, you will need to let Student Finance know.

Do this as soon as possible, as it may affect the amount you receive.

Follow the steps below to update your GOV.UK - Student Finance application:

  • Log into your account at GOV.UK - Student Finance login
  • Go to 'Your Account'
  • Select 'Change your Application'
  • Then 'University/College and Course'

I don’t want to go to university now – what else can I do?

If you don't want to go to university this year, you might be able to defer your place until next year.

You will need to contact the firm choice to discuss this.

If you're sure you don't want to defer the place until next year, you can use the ‘decline your place’ button.

If you change your mind, you can still use Clearing to apply elsewhere.
